IT-Infrastructure and Services
GESIS IT functions as an internal service provider in the areas of data processing and communication technology for all GESIS departments.
The essential tasks of the GESIS-IT are:
- providing and ensuring reliable network operations in conjunction with the core task of ongoing further development of its network (internal network and Internet interfaces) and central servers for a variety of services (file-, email-, database, web server and other web-based information offers)
- assistance and consulting to users in applying IT services
- instruction and education of GESIS personnel in using these services
- data storage (backup)
- procurement and exchange of hard- and software as well as installation of systems along with solutions and repairs if needed
It goes without saying that advising on the use of the various IT services and instructing on their use are also part of the department's tasks. The same applies to the procurement and replacement of hardware and software as well as the installation of systems and, in the event of a fault, their repair.
